Richly layered canvases, brimming with colour and life…
My paintings are process-led — canvases that are complex and richly layered, brimming with colour and gesture. The surface is built up intuitively, paint added, removed and reworked to create a textured, tactile surface where control and intuition meet; resolution sits alongside imperfection. Oil paint creates a rich surface, a meditation on materiality in which dabs and dashes, drips and scrapes, play off one another. Layers of oil, worked on over several months give evidence to the passing of time, producing work that feels both considered and alive.
Deep Among the Grasses
This series of paintings explores memory, landscape and the childhood feeling of being immersed in wild spaces. The canvases are alive with glancing brush marks that scud, or dance, across the surface, creating a lightness that evokes the movement of air, sometimes heavy with pollen and dust.
